How we use AI

We use artificial-intelligence tools to help our newsroom monitor the global news cycle, cluster related reports about the same story, and produce initial draft syntheses. This lets a small team cover a large volume of developing news quickly.

How we keep it accountable

AI does not publish on its own. Every article is governed by our editorial standards, which include explicit rules against fabricating quotes, names, statistics, or sources, and a requirement to reproduce figures exactly as reported. Drafts are checked against their source material and must clear a quality threshold before publication. Articles that do not meet the bar are held for human review rather than published.
