Princess Delphine & Photographer Sell Artwork for €40,000 to Charity
Princess Delphine’s Artwork Fetches €40,000 for Ugandan Children’s Charity
Knokke, Belgium – A striking and unconventional artwork co-created by Princess Delphine of Belgium and renowned photographer Henk van Cauwenbergh has raised a significant €40,000 for a vital humanitarian project in Uganda. The auction, held at a casino in Knokke, saw spirited bidding for the piece, titled ‘What makes us happy.’
The artwork itself is a provocative combination of photography and painting. Van Cauwenbergh initially captured the image – featuring a pair of legs and a depiction of excrement – with model Marilyn Billiet. Princess Delphine then added her artistic touch, transforming the photograph into a layered and thought-provoking piece.
“It’s a piece that certainly sparks conversation,” noted an attendee at the auction. “It’s not traditional, but it’s undeniably impactful, and knowing the money is going to such a worthy cause made it even more appealing.”
All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the charitable organization founded by Dr. Laurence Combes, a surgeon based in Knokke. Dr. Combes, along with a team of dedicated medical professionals, supports a project in Uganda focused on improving the lives of children. The organization provides crucial medical care, education, and support to vulnerable children in the region.
According to UNICEF, Uganda faces significant challenges in child welfare, with approximately 56% of the population under the age of 18. Access to quality healthcare and education remains limited for many, particularly in rural areas. Initiatives like Dr. Combes’ are therefore critical in addressing these needs.
The collaboration between Princess Delphine and Henk van Cauwenbergh stems from a two-decade-long friendship. Van Cauwenbergh is widely known for his popular showbusiness calendars and photography books, capturing the essence of Belgian celebrity culture.
This auction highlights a growing trend of artists and public figures leveraging their platforms for philanthropic endeavors. The intersection of art and charity not only raises funds but also increases awareness for important global issues.
Princess Delphine has been increasingly involved in artistic pursuits in recent years, including a fashion collaboration with Mayerline. Her commitment to both creative expression and social responsibility positions her as a unique and influential figure.
