Polish Firm Seeks Billions for Electric Vehicle Hub After Izera Project Collapse
Electromobility Poland Seeks Billions for New Automotive Hub After Izera Stumble
Warsaw, Poland – Electromobility Poland (EMP), the entity behind the stalled Izera electric car project, is once again vying for significant state funding to establish a new automotive production and development hub. The company has submitted a proposal seeking 4.5 billion Polish zloty (approximately $1.1 billion USD) from Poland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO) to revitalize its ambitions in the electromobility sector.
Government Backing and New Strategy
EMP’s application places it on a shortlist for a government competition aimed at supporting low-emission industrial projects. This initiative, funded by the KPO, targets advancements in both clean mobility and energy sectors. The previous failure of the Izera project, which aimed to produce a Polish-branded electric car, left EMP in a precarious position. However, the company’s latest strategy focuses on creating a comprehensive production and development center, which it claims will fundamentally reshape Poland’s automotive industry.
Jaworzno as the Potential Site
While the Izera brand has been sidelined, the new plan retains Jaworzno as the intended location for the manufacturing facility. The proposed plant is designed for an initial production capacity of 150,000 vehicles annually, with provisions for future expansion. EMP’s vision extends beyond mere production, aiming to establish a robust European automotive brand with its central operations and research and development facilities based in Poland.
“The time for sadness is over – now, we will simply deliver this project,” stated Tomasz Kędzierski, President of EMP, in July after submitting the funding application. He emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering innovation and technology transfer to ensure the competitiveness of Polish automotive manufacturing on a global scale.
Developing the Ecosystem
Beyond vehicle manufacturing, EMP’s strategy includes significant investments in R&D and the cultivation of a domestic supply chain. The company aims to support local suppliers and build a comprehensive value chain within Poland. This approach is designed to not only enhance the competitiveness of the Polish automotive sector but also to strengthen the broader electromobility ecosystem.
The decision on EMP’s funding request rests with the government, which will determine the future of this ambitious project and its potential impact on Poland’s industrial landscape.
