Córdoba: Dos bochófilos mueren en grave choque en Ruta 60
QUILINO, CÓRDOBA – Two men traveling to a bocce tournament were killed in a head-on collision on National Route 60 near Quilino, in northern Córdoba province, authorities said. The crash also left five others injured, including three children.
Joaquín Aguirre and Alberto “Panino” Robledo, both members of the Club Palermo of San José de las Salinas, died at the scene, according to police reports. The pair were en route to Deán Funes to participate in the anniversary championship of the Club Chanta Cuatro when their vehicle collided with another car.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 38-year-old man, was traveling with his partner and three children – ages 5, 10, and 12. All five were transported to the Romagosa Hospital, with the children later transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Córdoba for further treatment.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by local authorities. The driver of the second vehicle is currently being held for questioning.
The tragedy has deeply affected the local community. Club Chanta Cuatro has suspended the championship as a mark of respect. Both Club Palermo and Club Unión San José de las Salinas, where “Panino” served on the board of directors, have expressed their condolences.
“This is a tremendous loss for the bocce community in northern Córdoba,” said a statement released by Club Palermo on social media. Friends and fellow players have taken to social media to share their grief, with messages of remembrance flooding online platforms.
According to the National Road Safety Agency, head-on collisions account for approximately 12% of all fatal traffic accidents in Argentina, despite representing a smaller percentage of overall incidents. These collisions are often attributed to factors such as speeding, distracted driving, and overtaking in unsafe conditions. This incident underscores the ongoing need for increased road safety awareness and enforcement.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims,” said a spokesperson for the Córdoba Provincial Government. “We are committed to working with local authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and to implement measures to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.”
