Bucaramanga, Colombia – Panic and gunfire erupted at the Cuarta Etapa shopping mall in Bucaramanga on Friday as armed robbers targeted a jewelry store, leaving two people dead and several others injured. Authorities swiftly responded, leading to the arrest of five suspects.
The incident unfolded in the bustling mall located in the Cabecera del Llano neighborhood, sending shoppers scrambling for safety. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with numerous shots fired during the attempted heist.
“The police were entering from all sides of the parking lot, heavily armed,” recounted a bystander. “There were a huge number of shots fired, an incredible exchange of gunfire.”

Among the casualties were an intendente (police lieutenant) and one of the individuals involved in the robbery. Two others – the police officer and a suspect – sustained injuries during the shootout.
According to preliminary reports, at least 20 shots were exchanged within the mall, triggering widespread fear among shoppers and employees. “It’s a new jewelry store on the fourth floor of the mall, and there are several injured,” a mall worker told Caracol Bucaramanga, describing the harrowing moments.
