Preliminary investigations suggest the cyclist may have entered the roadway at a crosswalk when the collision occurred. “We have a working theory, and are investigating the possibility that the cyclist rode into the path of the truck,” stated police officials.
The area was closed to traffic for several hours as forensic teams gathered evidence. Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward with information.
Rising Concerns Over Road Safety
This incident highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding road safety for vulnerable road users, particularly cyclists. According to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen), cyclist fatalities have seen a 15% increase in the last five years, prompting calls for improved infrastructure and increased awareness campaigns.
The State Accident Investigation Board has been notified and will be conducting its own independent review of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
